Project Description

Karan, ON, Canada

“This time I came a bit different than last time. I’ve had some really crazy work stress. I caught myself not having the best diet. I caught myself making improper decisions again. And so before it gets out to a full-fledged type of breakdown and knockdown, I’d rather come back to a place that works for me. This place works for a multitude of reasons, but this is a home for me. It’s a second home… When you enter Fresh Start, you’re greeted by some of the most welcoming and talented human beings. And they sense of this aura of just positivity and love and no judgment and let’s do this together. And that feeling is a feeling that I don’t believe I’ve ever felt. And that’s why I call this home.”

I was a hot mess. . I was going through a lot of difficulty at work. A lot of stress, broken, which had caused me to have some very bad coping mechanisms, which in turn harmed relationships at home. And I came down from Toronto. I was pretty broken at the time. I was borderline on depression, extreme anxiety, and I just wanted to restart my life.a lot changed in my life. My nerves calmed down. My stress was released. I had learned some newer coping mechanisms. Breathing. And thanks to all the therapists that are here and the program directors.
I was able to carve out a plan to address my personal issues. I took away some phenomenal coping mechanisms, I talked out through various relationships and understood and understood the idea of boundaries.
High Blood Pressure. My blood pressure was rising. My blood pressure dropped from 175/ 110 to 123/80.
High Pulse. 88 bpmPulse decreased to: 70 bpm
Dysregulated nervous system. I was in overwhelm when I came here.I settled myself down. I understood how to bring down my nervous system organically and not be in that fight or flight situations at all times and not be so wired.
Unhealthy Lifestyle. I did not understand what colonic and isotonics were. I didn’t know how important gut health was and how it actually affects the rest of your body and your mind. The food you eat is the fuel that you will burn. And the cleaner the sources of food, the better is your body, and the more efficient your body runs. I took home a lot of knowledge about healthy lifestyle, and we incorporated it into our lifestyle. Now it’s healthier. We incorporated some superfoods, such as amaranth and buckwheat, added salad dressings and salads with every meal. We go very light on dinner. I still take probiotics, digestive enzymes and adrenal support.
Overreacting to actions of others. . My dynamic before with many of my relationships Was really bad at the point where I always was on guard thinking that I was getting insulted or people were coming at me rather than taking a second and listening to the person and understanding where they're coming from and understanding that not everything is a conflict.

It could just be a conversation. It could just be a dynamic where I'm not understanding the other individual for who they are and what they're trying to say. So, and also not understanding when my nervous system is perked up. I was in many conversations with multitude of people where my nervous system would already perk up because I was threatened.

I was just pounding back, if someone had a confrontation with me, I would be throwing the punch back rather than understanding why I'm getting punched at.
I figured that this was a natural response to me over time. Because of certain things that have happened in my childhood. And I wouldn't have realized that if I hadn't come to Fresh Start. I realized that there were certain traumas in my, childhood. That made me automatically perk up and automatically send signals to my nervous system.

Now I know how to control it and also work on the childhood traumas that I had. That everybody has. But I now know how to work on it. I'm a lot calmer, clear headed. I can make better decisions.

I'm not always on the go. I can take a beat back and I can think about a situation with a clear head and then be aggressive about it.

So I think people now see a little bit less stressful version of me, a little better at analyzing certain situations.

Kick-Start My Healthy Routine. I've done some amazing walks on this trip. I've learned not only in the classroom, but also with the cohort by talking to similar minded people. I've taken away some new ideas on eating and food. I have also used the facilities to the best of my abilities, in, in the gyms, and also with the therapists, relearning certain techniques that help me in my daily practice. Going to the classes in the morning, like the yoga and the meditation, calming down that nervous system again, doing the somatic therapies, which really help get out that energy, and bringing some good flowing energy and taking out the tension.
My BP that rose back again (150/110)Now my BP is at 130 over 89.
Extra Weight.I lost 13.5 lbs., and 2 inches of each chest and waist, In 6 days, just on clean eating, gym and classes, like Zumba, yoga and meditation,
doing certain therapies and steam.
Emotional Intelligence and feeling mentally recharged. And then mentally I've been recharged. Some great counselors out here where I've talked through my problems, understood my problems.

Understood how I should react in certain problems. Understood what coping mechanisms I should be leaning towards. Before I was leaning towards the eating or the drinking. And there are better ways of doing that. There are certain things that I like to do that never come to the forefront.

Because I don't have the time, but understanding that I need to take time for myself to be the best version of myself for everybody else is something important that I figured out.
Sleep Issues. I wasn't sleeping well. I was having issues sleeping through the night. I would sleep through the night, but I wouldn't feel well rested. Now over the last three days, I can say that I go to sleep. I stay asleep. I wake up early and I feel like I'm rested and energized to take on the day, rather than before I was sleeping the same amount, but not being able to get up.
Gut issues and brain fog, lack of clarity.Gut wise, I feel less bloated, I feel lighter. I feel much cleaner and less of a brain fog because when you eat garbage it really gets to you. It is what you eat, you are what you eat. And I was having severe brain fog. Now I have that clarity of where the next step has to go in my life.
Neck, shoulder, knee and hip pain. I had some pain in my knees and my hips and my shoulders and my neck, especially my shoulders and my neck... I was so tense that my shoulders would be up all the time, and it's an injury.

My natural reaction is to have my shoulders up and tense, and my neck tense, and because of the weight that I had put on, my knees were a little bit weak, and my hips were a little bit weak.
It is all released. I've gone to three sessions of body work. Somatic therapy helped me release energy from my shoulders and my neck. Other treatments that I took released tension from my shoulders and my neck as well. Everything is a mixture of different therapies that takes you to your goal.
Now with a little bit less weight on me and some good therapy, it's been very good. Walking is easier for me right now, too.

Experience Highlights:

  • The walks
  • Zumba class is always a good one
  • Food demos are very interesting. Because if you’re not used to that type of food or not used to that type of cooking, it’s very, very interesting. And it’s very, very, very cool for people who are foodies and people who like to cook.
  • Workouts in the gym – you’re getting some workout in, you’re actually thinking about something else.
